Dad’s Prayer for November 12th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, 1 Peter 1:7 says the trial of our faith is more precious than gold. Not the kind of faith that only shows up on Sunday. The kind that holds when the heat is on.

I do not enjoy the heat. The money stress that will not stop. The friendship I lost after a hard talk. The things with my parents I keep putting off. None of this is what I would choose.

But Your Word says the testing is making something worth more than what it costs. Like gold made pure in fire. Not fake gold. The real thing, brought out into the light.

Lord Jesus, You were tested in every way, and You came through. Help me let the testing in my life do what it is supposed to do. I do not have to like it. But help me trust what You are making with it.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes, even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ—
