Dads
Dad’s Prayer for October 28th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You said in John 15:19 that the world will not always understand us. That is true for me. At work and around my neighbors, I do not always get the cold shoulder. Sometimes it is just quiet confusion. They do not get why I live the way I do.
But the truth still stands. The things I am trying to live by do not fit the room I am in. Being faithful. Giving more than what is fair. Telling the truth even when it costs me. Choosing time with my kids when I could be moving ahead at work.
That tension is not always sharp. But it is always there.
Help me carry it without getting angry or argumentative. When I feel out of step, I do not need to explain myself. I just need to keep walking. Let the way I live say more than my words ever could. The people around me are not waiting for a speech. They are watching to see if my life holds up.
Lord Jesus, You stood out by being good, not by being loud. Teach me that same way. Let me carry this friction without bitterness.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
