Dads
Dad's Prayer for October 21st
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your love holds me in. It presses in on me and keeps me from going places I should not go. I have thought freedom means no limits. But Your love puts a fence around my life, and that fence keeps me safe.
There are places I would drift if You did not hold me. The afternoon distractions. The food I do not need. The conversation I would rather avoid with my kid. The late-night scroll. Your love pushes me toward the better thing in each one.
Lord Jesus, Your love is strong. Hem me in this week. Keep me from wandering, not by force, but by holding me in the lane where I am better, more myself, more useful to the people who depend on me.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
