Dads
Dad’s Prayer for October 14th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Paul said he counted everything he had as garbage compared to knowing Christ. He gave up a big name, a big past, all of it, just to have Jesus.
I do not always see my life that way. My job, my savings, my health, my family — these are real gifts. But they have a way of becoming my real god. I start to measure my worth by them.
I do not want to hate the gifts You gave me. I want to keep them in their place. Below You. Useful, but not ultimate. Good, but not where I rest.
Lord Jesus, knowing You is the real prize. Help me work hard this week — at my job, with my family, taking care of this body — without making any of them carry the weight that only You can carry.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
Yes most certainly, and I count all things to be a loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and count them nothing but refuse, that I may gain Christ
