Dads
Dad’s Prayer for October 13th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, I have been carrying two kinds of sorrow over a recent failure.
One is real grief over the harm I caused. That sorrow should drive me to say I am sorry, to make it right, and to go a new way. The other is self-pity over how embarrassed I am. That kind just sits inside me and goes bad.
Help me tell the difference. Help me act on the right one.
The grief over my words at home last week should turn into a plain apology, with no excuses. The shame about my reputation is the wrong kind. I leave that one behind.
Lord Jesus, You welcome a broken heart without putting it down. Take the good sorrow, and let it lead me to the next right thing to do. Leave the wrong kind on the floor.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
