Dads
Dad’s Prayer for October 9th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Jude 24 says You are able to keep me from falling. Able. Not will, if I work hard enough. Just able. That power is Yours, not mine.
I have been treating my life with You like a tightrope I have to walk all on my own. Eyes forward. Do not look down. Do not slip. But that is not what this verse says. The keeping is Yours. My job is to walk. The not-falling is on You.
That changes something in me. I do not have to be the only one guarding my own soul. I can fight temptation without thinking that one wrong step is the end. You keep me. You are in this with me.
Lord Jesus, You are able. Keep me through the small slippery places this week. The conversation I might get wrong. The impulse I might give in to. The temper I might lose. Help me trust that You are keeping me, and just keep walking.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
1 Corinthians 10:13
