Dad’s Prayer for October 7th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, I am tired. There is a weight I am carrying that feels like too much. There is a person who keeps draining me. There is a corner of work that has gone heavy. I do not want to pretend it is fine.

I know I would rather complain quietly or vent to someone close to me than bring it to You. It feels small or whiny in Your presence. But You have always made room for honest cries. Your people have always been able to say, “This is too much, I cannot keep doing this, I need help.”

So here is the actual weight today. I am not asking You to fix everything. I am asking You to hear me, and then to send what I need to keep walking.

Lord Jesus, You heard the disciples' fears without shaming them. Hear mine the same way. Strengthen me to carry what You keep me in, and to put down what You release me from.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
