Dad’s Prayer for October 5th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, in 1 Kings 19, Elijah ate the food an angel brought him and walked forty days on that one meal. One meal of grace, forty days of walking. That is how Your gifts work. They go further than I expect.

I am quick to limit Your grace. I think the good word from Sunday is only for Sunday. I think the peace I feel in the morning will not last past lunch. But Your strength does not run out the way mine does.

Help me carry what You give without underestimating it. The short Bible reading I did this morning may be what gives me patience at 2 p.m. when I do not feel like being patient. The prayer I prayed in the car may come back to me when the hard conversation starts.

Lord Jesus, You are the bread of life. What I have already received from You today is not nothing. Let it carry me all the way to evening.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray
