Dads
Dad’s Prayer for October 2nd
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Colossians 1:5 says the hope You laid up for us is in heaven. Not here. Not in my bank account, my retirement, my job, my health, or my plans. It is there.
I have been hiding my hope in the wrong places. Most of it is in things that change, like the market, my kids' futures, my body, and my work. When any of those shake, I shake. But Your Word points me somewhere better.
Move my hope to the right place. Not so I stop caring about my family or my job, but so I do not fall apart when things wobble. The hope that lasts does not depend on this week or this year.
Lord Jesus, You went ahead to prepare a place for me. My hope is in Your name. Help some of my worries quiet down this week because the deeper hope is safe with You.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
