Dads
Dad’s Prayer for September 22nd
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Psalm 149:2 says, “Let Your people rejoice in their Maker.” That means my joy starts with who You are, not with how my day goes.
Most of my happiness depends on what happens. If the day goes well, I am glad. If it does not, I get down. But that kind of joy does not last.
You made me. You keep me going. You are not against me, even with all I have done wrong. That is true at 6 a.m. and still true at 11 p.m., no matter what happened in between.
Help me find my joy in You today, not in what I make or what I get. Not in my projects, my kids' grades, or praise at work. In You.
Show me one thing today to thank You for that is just about You, not about what I get from You.
Lord Jesus, You are the joy of Your people. Be my joy in the next twelve hours. Let me come home tonight cheerful because of who You are, not because everything went right.
Amen.
