Dad's Prayer for September 14th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, in Mark 4:36, Jesus was asleep in the boat while the storm raged. The disciples panicked. He woke up and calmed the wind and waves, then asked why they still had no faith.

I do not handle the storms in my week much better. There is always something pressing down. I work myself up past the point of usefulness, then wonder why my prayers sound like complaints.

Help me come to You before panic takes over. Give me a simple, honest ask before the noise in my head gets too loud. Help me believe that even when You seem asleep, the boat is not going down.

Lord Jesus, You were calm in the storm, and the wind obeyed You. Calm me by Your presence in the next twelve hours. Quiet what You choose to quiet. The rest I can carry if You are in the boat.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
