Dad’s Prayer for September 10th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, in Mark 3:13, Jesus called the ones He wanted. They did not sign up. They did not raise their hands. He chose them, and they came.

That order matters to me. I did not plan my way to You. I cannot explain why I came to faith, and the man at the next desk did not. Your call did not depend on my skills or my record. It depended on Your choice.

Keep me grateful for that. Pride hides in the thought that I figured it out. I did not. You called. Help me come to You again and again, and keep me from looking down on anyone who has not yet heard or has not yet turned.

Lord Jesus, You called me. When I sit down at my desk tomorrow, help me act like a man who got more than he deserved, because that is the truth. Let that gratitude soften me toward the people You are still reaching.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
