Dads
Dad’s Prayer for September 8th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your Word says, "From Me Your fruit is found." Hosea 14:8. That means the good things I see in my life right now — the patience I did not plan, the hard talk that went better than it should have, the kindness that came out easy — that was not me. It came through me, but it was never mine.
I take the credit anyway. I notice when I do something good, and I file it away as if I earned it. Then the next day, I try just as hard, and nothing good comes out of it. I get confused. But the credit was never mine to keep.
Let me hold fruit loosely. When something good happens through me, let me thank You fast and forget that I was even part of it. Take the spotlight off me.
Lord Jesus, You are the vine. I am the branch. Apart from You, I can do nothing that lasts. With You, I do more than I can take credit for. Help me stay close to You. Help me stop counting.
Amen.
