Dad's Prayer for August 31st

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You promised in Isaiah 51 that Your salvation is going forth and Your arm is at work in the world. I believe that. Even when life looks like chaos, You are moving. You are not waiting for me to figure everything out first.

August is over. I am tired. School is starting, and the calendar is fuller than I wanted. I wanted more peace this summer than I got. I wanted to enjoy my kids more than I did.

Forgive what I missed. Help me walk into September with honest expectations and a steady grip. The work You are doing in this family is not on my calendar. It does not rise and fall with my mood. Your arm is moving whether I feel it or not.

Lord Jesus, You are my salvation in motion. Let me move with You into this next month. Not behind. Not ahead. Just beside You, at the pace You set.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
