Dad’s Prayer for August 26th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your name is holy. It deserves weight when I say it.

But I throw it around too easily some days. It slides off my tongue without meaning. I say "Father" without thinking about who You really are. I say "Lord" without stopping to obey. I say "Jesus" like it is just the end of a sentence, not the name of the man who took my place.

Slow me down when I speak Your name. Let me mean it every time.

Help me talk about You with care in front of my kids. They are watching how I say Your name as much as they are listening to the words. If Your name is light in my mouth, theirs will be lighter.

Lord Jesus, let Your name be honored in this house this week. Let the way I say it match the weight it carries.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
