Dads
Dad’s Prayer for August 25th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your Word says that under Your shadow there is great delight. I do not usually sit down. I keep moving. I feel like rest is something I have to earn, or that I am stealing it from the people I should be helping.
But Your shadow is a gift. I do not have to deserve it. Help me sit today, even for a short time. Let me stop pushing the day forward and just be still with You. Coffee outside instead of at my desk. A psalm read in a chair instead of on my feet. A walk with no podcast, just quiet.
Lord Jesus, You are the shade that cools me down. Let me rest under You for a while today. Then send me back to my work less rushed, less driven, more whole.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
