Dad’s Prayer for August 22nd

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, there is a longing in me that I keep stuffing down with work and busyness. Some days I feel it under the surface of an ordinary Tuesday — a hunger that is not about food, a thirst that is not about water. I have spent years thinking the next purchase or the next achievement would fill it. They do not.

Let me name the longing for what it is. It is for You. Not for a perfect performance for You. Not for words about You. For You.

Lord Jesus, You said You came so we might have life. Give me a moment of that life today. Just enough so I know what I have been hungering for.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
