Dad's Prayer for August 21st

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says the generous soul is made rich, and he who waters will himself be watered. That does not match the way I was taught to count. I grew up thinking giving things away was losing. But You see it another way.

I am not asking to be careless with money or time. I am asking to be less small. Help me tip well even when nobody notices. Help me say yes when someone at work asks for a few minutes. Help me give to the family at church without worrying about my own savings first.

This watering rule works with attention too. The dads I know who give time to their kids end up with more in them, not less. The husbands who love their wives without keeping score end up with marriages worth coming home to.

Lord Jesus, You poured Yourself out, and the Father raised You up. Help me trust that pattern enough to do one generous thing this week, not to get something back, but because it is who You are making me.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
