Dads
Dad’s Prayer for August 7th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, I cannot make myself love You on my own. It starts when You draw me, and then I move.
I have been acting like it all depends on me. Wake up, force the focus, push through. That works for a few days, and then I am done. A better way is to show up — five minutes, a chapter — and ask You to draw me. Then I let the running happen at whatever pace You set.
Today, draw me. Just enough to come back tomorrow. I do not need something big. I need a steady pull that gets me through the week.
Lord Jesus, You are good at drawing tired men. Pull me along. Let me run after You, even for a little while.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
