Dad’s Prayer for August 4th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says that the people who know You will be strong and do great things. Not the people who only know about You from a book. The people who actually know You.

I have spent more time reading about You than talking to You this year. I can say the right words and still be a stranger to You. Knowing You comes from time with You, from honest talk, from listening even when I do not feel like it.

Move me past just knowing about You. I want enough of the real thing this year to show up in small ways at home. Not because I am trying to look good, but because time with You is changing how I speak and how I lead my family.

Lord Jesus, You said You can be known. Help me actually know You, not just nod at You from far away. Give me strength for the small, hard, good things right in front of me.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. He will corrupt those who do wickedly against the covenant by flatteries; but the people who know their God will be strong and take action.
    Daniel 11:32
