Dads
Dad’s Prayer for July 31st
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, July ends. In John 17:23, Jesus prayed that we would be one with You, the way He is one with You. Not just a name on a list. A real shared life. Your life in me, in my family, in the people next to me at church.
I do not feel one with much of anything this week. Tired of my coworkers. Distant from my brother, I have not called. Going through the motions at home. The unity Jesus prayed for sounds like another world.
But You are still moving us toward it. Give me small steps. One honest conversation tonight, not just a quiet truce. One real prayer for the brother I have been avoiding. One Sunday where I show up early, stay late, and talk to someone I do not know.
Lord Jesus, You prayed for our oneness the night before You died. That prayer is still working. Let me feel a small answer this week in one real friendship. And let me be that for someone else.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
