Dad’s Prayer for July 20th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says in Ephesians 1:14 that Your Spirit is a deposit, a down payment on what is coming. I had to read that twice. A deposit means more is still on the way.

The peace I feel sometimes, the times I see things clearly, the patience I did not expect in a hard conversation — these are not the whole thing. They are just a small taste of what You are holding for me.

Keep me from acting like this life is all there is. When I treat my comforts here as the main thing, I get scared of losing them. But when I remember they are just a small part of what You have promised, I can hold them with open hands and share them with others.

Make me a man who lives like he has been promised more. Generous, because Your supply is not running out. Patient, because the outcome is already safe in Your hands. Honest, because You see it all and You are the one who keeps the record.

Lord Jesus, You sent the Spirit as proof. Help me trust that proof on the days when I wish You would just show me everything now.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. who is a pledge of our inheritance, to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of his glory.
    Ephesians 1:14
  2. while we don’t look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
    2 Corinthians 4:18
