Dad's Prayer for July 18th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, in Your Word, You show us a camp that walked at the back of the line. They were not the headline. They brought up the rear. They kept the stragglers from being lost. I think You are calling me to that this season.

I do not need to be at the front of the column. I do not need to be on the stage or in the spotlight at work. I need to be the man who notices the kid in the back of the room, the co-worker who got quiet, the neighbor whose porch light has been off all week.

Free me from always needing to be seen. Let me walk slowly enough to do rear-guard work, checking on the people who might fall behind, lending strength where strength is short.

Lord Jesus, You went looking for the one who was lost. Train me in that pace. Make me a man who finishes a week with no one left behind.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
