Dads
Dad’s Prayer for July 13th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You once asked Jonah, "Is it right for You to be angry?" I do not always want to answer that question honestly.
Most of my anger this week was not good. It was traffic. Slow software. A slow co-worker. A snippy text from my brother. Small things, over and over, making my heart hard.
Help me tell the difference. Some anger is right. I should be angry at real evil. At neglect. At anything that hurts the people I love. That kind of anger should lead me to protect and to pray. But the other kind — the impatience that flares because someone got in my way — that is just my pride talking loud.
Slow me down before I speak. Let me ask myself what You asked Jonah: Is it right for me to be angry right now? When the answer is no, give me grace to let it go. When the answer is yes, give me wisdom to do something good with it.
Lord Jesus, You were angry and never sinned. Teach me to be angry the way You were. Not to shut it down, but to aim it right.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
