Dad’s Prayer for July 8th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, I do not always know where my real strength comes from. Some days I feel strong and clear. Other days, I feel like I am just pretending, leaning on coffee and my own plans.

Show me that my strength comes from You. Not from my work, not from the gym, not from my pay. From You, through small things like reading Your Word, telling You the truth at night, talking honestly with my wife, and time with other men who follow You.

Keep me from giving up those small habits. There are so many things that pull me away. Even my phone can steal my time with You. Help me stay close to You in the small things.

Lord Jesus, I do not want to wake up one day and find I have drifted far from You. Hold me close so I can tell when I start to wander.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
