Dad’s Prayer for July 2nd

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, I do not feel like rejoicing today. The week's news is not great, the inbox is not under control, and my patience with the people I love is short. I am not going to pretend otherwise in this prayer.

You said in Psalm 33:21 that our hearts rejoice in You. Not in our circumstances, but in You. I need that kind of joy today. Not the kind that depends on a good day, but the kind that holds when everything falls apart.

Teach me to choose You before I feel ready. Let me thank You for one small mercy this morning — sleep, coffee, a healthy child, a job to go to — and let that thankfulness steady me before the day takes over.

Lord Jesus, You are good when I am tired and good when I am rested. Anchor me there. Help me carry that quiet into the house tonight.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
