Dad’s Prayer for June 27th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord, Pharaoh told the people to go worship, but not to go far. That is my kind of compromise, too. Yes, I will pray, but not for very long. Yes, I will give, but not enough to change the budget. Yes, I will serve, but only when it is easy. Show me where I am still cutting deals with You. Help me go all the way. Not far enough to be noticed. Just far enough that the compromise is broken. By tonight, let me do one thing I have been holding back. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to Yahweh your God in the wilderness, only you shall not go very far away. Pray for me.”
    Exodus 8:28
