Dad’s Prayer for June 10th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Paul wrote, "We live unto the Lord." That is the point of being alive at all. My reasons for living shift through the day. I live for my family. I live for the work. I live for my kids' future. I even live for myself too much. Paul does not say none of these matters. He puts You above them all. We live unto the Lord. All the smaller reasons fit under that one. Realign me today. Whatever I do — for the kids, for my wife, for the boss, for myself — let it be done for You. I do not have to serve six masters. I get to serve one, in all the roles You have given me. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. For if we live, we live to the Lord. Or if we die, we die to the Lord. If therefore we live or die, we are the Lord’s.
    Romans 14:8
