Dad’s Prayer for June 6th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word records Job saying, "I am vile." That is the most honest thing he said. I feel a strange relief in those words. Not despair. Just honesty. The story I tell myself — that I am basically good with a few rough edges — does not hold up when I really look. But the looking does not destroy me. Your grace in Christ holds me still. So let me walk through that door today. "I am vile" and "I am Yours" can be said in the same breath. Let me say both. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
