Dads

Dad’s Prayer for June 2nd

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord, Your Word says the flesh wars against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh. That fight is real inside me. I felt it this morning before I even got out of bed. The flesh wanted twenty more minutes of sleep. The Spirit wanted a few minutes with You. The flesh wanted to skim the headlines. The Spirit wanted the Psalm. The flesh wanted to go through the motions with my kids. The Spirit wanted me to really be there. Help me side with Your Spirit at the small forks today. Not in some big heroic way. Just in steady ones. The war is real. But I can win small parts of it when I say no to what my flesh wants most. By bedtime, let me have won a few small ones. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire.
    Galatians 5:17
