Dads
Dad’s Prayer for May 31st
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, David crossed the brook Kidron while his own son fought against him. He was a king with no throne that day. Just a father walking through pain. I may not face what David faced, but I know smaller versions of that hurt. The talk that went nowhere. The look that said You do not get it. The phase where all I can do is watch and pray. Be with me on whatever hard path I walk this month with my kids. Let me not pretend it does not hurt. Let me not give up hope. David crossed Kidron, and it was not the end of his story. Help me keep walking. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
All the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over. The king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over toward the way of the wilderness.
