Dads
Dad’s Prayer for May 16th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You give us richly all things to enjoy. That is what Your Word says, and I need to hear it. I have treated joy like it is less holy than duty. I have felt guilty for resting, for savoring a meal, for sitting with someone I love, for reading a quiet book after a long day. But You made those things to be enjoyed. Help me receive them as gifts without apology. Let my gratitude lead me back to You, not to wanting more and more. Teach me to enjoy what is in front of me and to worship You for giving it to me. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
Charge those who are rich in this present age that they not be arrogant, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on the living God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy;
1 Timothy 6:17
