Dads
Dad’s Prayer for May 12th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Jesus said He shows Himself to the one who obeys Him. I want to see You, but I have not been putting much effort into obeying You. I have been frustrated, and I see why. Help me reverse the order. Today, the small things I know to do — be honest, be patient, be faithful to my wife in thought and word, do my work as unto You — keep me at them. I am not obeying to earn a reward. I am obeying because I trust that those who follow You will begin to see what You are already doing. Watch what happens to me today.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
