Dads

Dad’s Prayer for May 8th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, there was a man at a pool who was healed and did not know by whom. A lot of my healings have been like that. I cannot name the prayer that broke the addiction in my twenties. I cannot trace exactly how the depression after Dad died lifted. You healed me without taking credit. I am grateful. Let me give You the credit now, even if it is late. The healing was real. The Healer was You. Where You are healing me right now — quietly, slowly, without me noticing how — let me thank You as I look back and see it. Even late thanks still count.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
    1 John 5:13
