Dads Prayer for May 2nd

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Jesus prayed that His followers would not be taken out of the world, but to be kept from evil. He left us here on purpose. I keep wanting to pray the prayer Jesus refused. 'Get me out of this.' The hard work. The long season of parenting. The cultural moment that makes me want to run. But You did not pray for removal. You prayed for keeping. Help me embrace the assignment to be here. Married here. Working here. Parenting here. In this neighborhood, with these neighbors. Keep me from the evil that is real here, and from the temptation to escape instead of staying. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
