Dad’s Prayer for April 25th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your word says, 'Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.' That is not a command from a boss. It is an invitation from someone who likes me. I have been going through the motions. Not really moving toward You. Pull me out of that today. Give me a small 'coming away.' A walk without my phone. A real talk with someone close to me. A few minutes with You that are not scheduled. Rise up, my heart. You are not stern. You are kind. That makes me willing to get up. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. My beloved spoke, and said to me,
    Song of Solomon 2:10
  2. If a man says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn’t love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
    1 John 4:20
