Dad’s Prayer for April 18th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Rahab marked her house so others could see where mercy was. I see small marks of mercy on my home, too. The way we pray before meals when guests are over. The books on the shelf. The way we treat the neighbors. They are little scarlet lines. They show whose family we are.

Help me keep those marks visible without making a fuss about them. Let the way we live point to You without me having to explain it all. Keep me steady. Keep me consistent. Even when I cannot see what You are doing, I trust that You are with us.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. She said, “Let it be as you have said.” She sent them away, and they departed. Then she tied the scarlet line in the window.
    Joshua 2:21
  2. But Rahab the prostitute, her father’s household, and all that she had, Joshua saved alive. She lives in the middle of Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
    Joshua 6:25
