Dads
Dad’s Prayer for April 12th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You know how my heart hardens by default. It tightens. It defends. It locks up around the year's disappointments. Soften it. Not into mush. Into something warm that You can reshape. Let the grudge I have been carrying be the first thing to melt. Let the defensiveness with my wife be the second. Let the cynicism about the church be the third. None of these are useful to me anymore. Take them. Pour them out. Replace them with something new and Yours. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.
