Dad's Prayer for April 11th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord, You know what it is to be poured out. Christ prayed those words on the cross: "I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint." Most working men know a small version of that. The afternoon when there is nothing left to give and the evening is still long. The week that empties me out. When I get to that thin place, help me remember that You went so much further. You were truly poured out for me. The tiredness I feel is not something to brag about. It is just what it costs to care. Refill me through the night. Send me back tomorrow with what I need for that day. Not more than enough. Just enough. That is all I ask.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
