Dad’s Prayer for April 9th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, when You carried the cross, a crowd followed, and women mourned and wept for You. There was grief in that parade. I confess I have not grieved Your suffering as I should. I have learned about the cross, but I have not wept over what it cost. I am not asking for fake tears. I ask for real sorrow that an innocent man carried my guilt. Let that sorrow stay with me long enough to change my heart. Then turn it into thanks—because the cross was not the end. It was a doorway, and through it You rose, alive forever. Even this grief is a gift from Your finished work. So let the grief be short, and let the worship be long. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
