Dads
Dad’s Prayer for March 25th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord, Jesus asked Judas, "Are You betraying me with a kiss?" That close kind of hurt made the betrayal worse. I have done my own kind of that. I have prayed just to be seen praying. I have shown up on Sunday to cover a week of not caring. I have said something kind at church about someone I talked badly about on Monday. Forgive me for these close-up lies. They are mine, not someone else's. Take off the fake cover from the parts of me that are not really for You. I would rather be honest and cold toward You than fake and warm. From that honest place, You can do the slow work of warming me up for real. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
