Dad’s Prayer for March 17th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord, Paul told the church to "remember the poor," and he said it as if it were simple. Like, we should just do it. But I have stopped remembering them. The man at the off-ramp. The family at church I know is struggling. The emails from aid groups I delete without reading. Today, remember them through me. Not with a big check. With one small honest act. Give what You moved me to give last month, and I never gave. Look the man in the corner in the eye. Let me say good morning even when I am not handing him anything. Get my heart back into the right shape so next time I am not so quick to look the other way. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. They only asked us to remember the poor—which very thing I was also zealous to do.
