Dads
Dad’s Prayer for March 2nd
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your people once had to go to their enemies just to get their tools sharpened. I get that. There are people in my life I disagree with on most things, but they are sharper than me in some ways. I have been too proud to learn from them. Open my hands to the sharpening that has to come through people I would rather not credit. The colleague with the better way of doing things. The brother-in-law who reads my kid better than I do. The pastor whose sermon irritates me but still corrects me. None of them are my enemies. They are just inconvenient teachers. Make me a willing student. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
