Dad's Prayer for February 18th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, there is a prayer I have been afraid to say out loud. I do not know exactly what You are doing in this stretch. The work is harder. The marriage took a strange turn. A friend I trusted let me down. If You are working on something in me, I would rather know. Show me plainly. Not in some big vision. Just in an honest look at my own heart. The thing I keep avoiding might be the thing You are bringing up. Help me sit still long enough to hear it. And do not let me hide in the easy story that all hardship is just random. Sometimes it is a loving father's hand. I would rather face Your hand than pretend it is only wind.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
