Dads
Dad's Prayer for February 16th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Paul wrote that he learned to be content in every season. He did not get it all at once. He was taught by going through it again and again. I keep waiting for contentment to just show up like a feeling. But You say it is learned. So put me in that school. Today, the lesson is the task at work I do not love. Tomorrow it may be the hard talk with my dad I want to avoid. I will not graduate from this school. Nobody does. But I want to make progress this year. By Easter, let small letdowns shake me less. By summer, let me stop thinking the next promotion will fix everything. By December, let me be a man whose mood does not rise and fall with any one Tuesday. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
