Dads
Dad's Prayer for February 11th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord, Acts 4:13 says people could tell Peter and John had been with Jesus. I cannot say that about myself today. If a coworker heard me complain this afternoon, they would not say, "This man has been with Jesus."
So change who I have been with this morning. Move me off the news scroll. Move me out of my complaints and my worry about the day ahead. Give me ten minutes with You before I go out.
Then send me into my Tuesday and let people see You in me. Not in fancy words. In my tone. In how I respond when someone interrupts me. In the small kindness, I show the person walking slowly in front of me.
Be the One I spend time with first. Let the whole day show it.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and had perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled. They recognized that they had been with Jesus.
