Dad’s Prayer for February 4th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your love is bigger than I can hold. It does not keep score. It does not walk away when it should. That is the love I keep underestimating in my own marriage. Teach me a small dose of it this week. The wife I have been irritated with for two days has not stopped being mine. I have not stopped being hers. Let me move toward her tonight without a chip on my shoulder. Not because I have figured out the disagreement. Because that is what love that looks like Yours does, be patient with my slow learning. Marriage is the long classroom. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. Yahweh said to me, “Go again, love a woman loved by another, and an adulteress, even as Yahweh loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods, and love cakes of raisins.”
    Hosea 3:1
