Dads
Dad’s Prayer for February 3rd
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord, Paul says we are debtors, not to the flesh but to You. I am in Your debt, and I swing between making that too heavy and making it too light. Let it land in the middle today. Not crushing. Not erased. Just true. Everything I have is borrowed. The breath in my lungs. The work I am proud of. The wife who said yes. The patience I somehow find on a hard afternoon. Put me back in the place of one who owes everything and is loved anyway. From that place, let me work generously today. Generous with effort. Generous with patience. Generous with time for the kid who keeps asking the same question. I am in debt. Show me that as freedom, not as fear. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
