Dad’s Prayer for January 30th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, I move too fast. I jumped on that email last night instead of sleeping on it. I gave my kid an answer before I thought about it. I said yes to a project I should have prayed about for a week. Slow me down today. Not into paralysis. Into listening. Give me patience to wait for Your nudge before I act on the loudest impulse. And give me the courage to move quickly when the nudge does come, instead of overthinking what is clear. Help me know the difference. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then stir yourself up; for then Yahweh has gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.”
    2 Samuel 5:24
