Dad’s Prayer for January 19th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord, some mornings I look for You, and I do not find You. Prayer feels like calling a number that does not ring. I am not panicking. I am also not pretending it is not true. In this dry season, keep me showing up. Even when I do not feel You, I will not act like You are gone. I will read Your Word. I will say the words. I will go to the next plain responsibility. You have not moved. When the silence breaks — and it will — let me not have wasted it by getting offended. Let me have used it to learn that staying faithful is not the same as feeling close. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
